Thanks for your interest in Malawi!
Malawi is one of the smallest countries in Central Africa, but with a population of almost 17 million people, it feels like one of the most crowded! It’s known as The Warm Heart of Africa and anyone who has visited knows just how true that is!
Formerly known as Nyasaland, Malawi was familiar territory to the famous explorer, David Livingstone, and many place names in Malawi still hark back to that near-forgotten era when Livingstone worked tirelessly for the liberation of her people from the tyranny of slavery. At Nkhotakota on the northern lake shore you can visit the tree under whose shade he sat with local tribal leaders to negotiate the end of that villainous practice.
Today, though freed from the yoke of iron, millions in Malawi are still bound by the yoke of sin. What a privilege to carry to them the glorious Gospel of Christ – the only message which can free from the chains of sin!
“Cannot the love of Christ carry the missionary where the slave-trade carries the trader? I shall open up a path to the interior or perish.” (David Livingstone)
